Mazda RX-Vision concept, 2015 (Mazda RX-9, 2021?). A recent patent filling by Mazda suggests that they are continuing to work on a rotary-engined sports car. Motor magazine in Japan has recently uncovered a patent for a “vehicle shock absorption structure”. The accompanying diagram shows a spaceframe design with a compact engine bay, too small to fit a non-rotary internal combustion engine. The patent features double wishbone front suspension and is constructed from a mixture of aluminium alloy and carbon-fibre components suggesting the vehicle has a strong sporting character. In January the automaker patented a new port and twin-scroll turbo design.
